Self-destructive behavior

I think insurance companies should pay for self-destructive behavior. What would they do if their kids participated in self- destructive behavior and their insurance did not pay for treatment? The behavior may have been done upon their self but something caused the behavior in the first place.
It’s called many things – self-inflicted violence, self-injury, self- harm, par suicide, delicate cutting, self-abuse, self-mutilation (this last particularly seems to annoy people who self-injure).
Broadly speaking, self-injury is the act of trying to alter a mood by inflicting physical harm serious enough to cause tissue damage to one’s body.
Types of Self Destructive Behavior
 Branding
 Marking
 Burning /Abrasions
 Biting
 Bruising
 Hitting
 Carving
 Scratching

It’s not self-injury if the chief purpose is sexual gratification, body decoration, spiritual enlightenment by ritual, fitting in or being cool.
Callie cut herself in the book Cut because she was stressed out.
Self destructive behavior is often
1. A Cry for Help-Some people cut themselves to show others they need help.
2. For Attention-Many teens or other people cut themselves in hope for attention
3. It’s put them in control-Some people cut in order to see that they are in control
Day 104 of 365 days explains one persons reasons for cutting.
As parents and as a community perhaps if we can give teens more important tasks than texting, video games, and hanging out at the mall, they won’t be as easily seduced by self-destructive behaviors.
I think teens may participate in self- destructive behavior because teens are given to much responsibility, like, in Callie’s situation, taking care of her brother. This can put a lot of stress on teens. Schools can help them get help like refer them to a rehabilitation center. As an individual, tell their parents.
This is why I think insurance companies should pay for teens who participate in self-destructive. It is not their fault that they have so much stress on them the parents need to quit putting stress on their teenagers.
